With musical roots as diverse as the world’s music lovers, Montreal’s Auresia effortlessly blends unique pop sensibilities with the soul of reggae and salsa, always keeping herself free to innovate and inspire. A singer, songwriter and guitarist, the Edmonton raised musician of Ukrainian descent has been singing and charming audiences from the age of three.
Listening to her intricate melodies, beautiful harmonies and eclectic mix of Caribbean, soul, latin and pop flavors, which are perfectly blended with empowering and even eco-conscious lyrics, it doesn’t take long to reach the conclusion that Auresia’s sound is most certainly diverse. It’s no surprise then she’s honored the Reggae Xclusive Award in 2014 for top singer and was n nominated for Favorite World Artist at the 2010 Independent Music Awards and for four awards at the Canadian Reggae Music Awards.
Following her five-time nominated self-titled debut in 2008 and her world- pop sophomore LP “RISIN’!” which includes tracks co-written by Omar Martinez (Co-writer of Justin Bieber’s song ‘Pray’), and tracks produced by David Beatty (Producer of Nelly Furtado’s ‘Folkloric’ album), Auresia releases her third full-length release, titled Raices. With a penchant for delivering unexpected genre-bending tracks, Auresia masterfully showcases her unique musical stylings on ‘Raices’meaning ’roots’ in Spanish, is a new kind of musical love letter.
Recorded between Cuba and Canada, Raices was co-produced by Auresia herself and David Lines and is a true labor of love. Not only is it impressive in its eclectic mix of styles, which range from reggae to salsa, rumba, flamenco and bossa nova, but in its diverse use of musicians and instruments from around the world. Showcasing the sounds of traditional acoustic instruments from Cuba and Auresia’s native Ukraine, Raices is fully comprised of organic instrumentation and impressively blends roots reggae and roots Afro Cuban with Auresia’s folk-pop lyrics and melodies.
Trading in the youthfulness and simple fun of her first two records for a more refined sound, Auresia delivers a raw, truthful interpretation of everyday life and the realities of being a strong woman on Raíces. The one thing that hasn’t changed, however, is her deep-rooted passion for reggae and latin music. Although most of her lyrics are sung in English, she masterfully weaves in Spanish phrases, as well as words in Lakota, the native tongue of the people of the Sioux tribes.
